Pagan: Fate of Roanoke by Kasper Christiansen and Kåre Storgaard is a social deduction living card game set in colonial America in the year 1587. At the core of this asymmetric game is the struggle between the Witch and the Witch Hunter. While the Witch seeks to complete a ritual, the Hunter tries to uncover her and learn her true identity. Both players use variable card decks of 50 cards each and various resources to defeat the opposing side. Many different tactics and strategies are possible and necessary to succeed in this competitive battle of powers. Embedded in the dark graphics by illustrator Maren Gutt, the fictional story of the lost colony on Roanoke Island comes to life.
The first expansion - Pagan: Fate of Roanoke - Beyond the Palisade is about how the colony was plagued by troubles from the start. Even without the unsettling witchcraft within the village, settling the new frontiers has proven remarkably difficult. Nevertheless, the colony must turn its attention to the wild lands beyond the palisade. Its resources are key to survival.
Though teeming with wild animals and rich in resources, the surrounding swamplands are shrouded in a perpetual mist. Attempts to expand livestock farming have failed. Cattle grow weak, milk sours, and eggs are laid in varying shades of green. Is the witchcraft within the small community merely a symptom of a larger, unnatural phenomenon? Can the land be cleansed to transform the colony into a thriving colonial foothold?
